The National Depletion Policy 1980
The policy was introduced to safeguard the exploitation of natural oil reserves because of the rapid increase in the production of crude oil.
Therefore, other fuels included in the power generation are namely gas, hydro and coal.

Framework
Government of Malaysia
The Malaysian government plays a significant role in regulating and overseeing the natural gas sector. Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga)
The Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the energy sector in Malaysia, including natural gas. It regulates and supervises the activities of gas companies, ensures compliance with laws and regulations, and promotes competition and efficiency in the natural gas market.
PETRONAS
Petroliam Nasional Berhad, commonly known as Petronas, is Malaysia’s national oil and gas company. Petronas plays a central role in the exploration, production, and distribution of natural gas in Malaysia. It is involved in upstream activities such as gas exploration and production, as well as downstream activities including gas processing and liquefaction.
Gas Companies and Operators
There are other companies involved in the natural gas industry in Malaysia, including international oil and gas companies, independent gas producers, and gas distribution companies. Consumers
